Because we provide both medical and routine eye care, we accept a number of discount vision plans and medical insurances.
We must follow your insurance's rules when determining whether to bill to your vision plan vs medical insurance.
Vision plans cover routine care and may have a benefit for eyeglasses and/or contact lenses. A routine examination covers a basic screening for eye diseases or conditions. However, they do not cover diagnosis, management, or treatment of eye conditions. Essentially, a routine examination results in 20/20 vision; it looks for but does not find any ocular medical problems.
Medical insurance covers medical eye care including cataracts, dry eye, diabetes, eye infections, eye injuries, floaters, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and plaquenil testing. Medical insurances do not cover materials (eyeglasses or contact lenses) and the refraction (how your prescription is determined).
